Literature

For beginning students I primarily use the Piano Adventure series and Bastien Piano Basic series.  If you already have books that you have been using from a different series, or incomplete sets of the particular level the student is on, an exception may be made.  However, a blank theory book is required.  If there is a book or genre that you would like your student to learn, it must be approved by me first.  If I don't feel that it's pertinent to the student's level of play or helpful for them at that time, please don't count any extracurricular play as practice time.  It will fall under the category of "bonus practice."

I will provide supplemental books from my own library as needed.  If a book is damaged while checked out to the student, the student will be responsible for it's replacement.

Please provide a practice notebook for your students.  I will use these to record their assigned pieces and notes for the parent.

I can help you determine your or your child's skill level if you are unsure.

*Piano Adventure and Bastien Piano Basic Series books can be found on amazon.com or ksl.com.

Payments

I charge $15 per half hour lesson and $22 per 45 minute lesson.  Completed lessons will not be refunded.  Parent has option of paying at the beginning of month, per lesson, or the last day of the month.  However, if a particular month is not paid in full by the last day of said month, a one time fee of $10 is added to the outstanding balance.  Payment will be accepted in the form of personal check or cash.

Attendance

If you are not able to attend a lesson, please contact me the day before.  In the case of sickness, you may contact me the day of the lesson.  If a lesson is canceled, it can be rescheduled to another day or time.  Permanent lesson time changes are available as my schedule allows.

Practice

150 minutes of practice weekly is required.  30 minutes of daily practice five times a week is optimal, but do what is best for your family.  I will provide practice recording sheets at the beginning of lessonsThe parent will need to verify the practice hours and sign the paper in order for the practice hours to be counted.  All hours will be accumulated and the students will be able to enter a drawing to be held during each recital.  I cannot stress how important practice time is to learning the piano.  Please ensure that your children are doing the practicing they need to continue progressing.

Recitals

There will be a spring recital and a Christmas recital each year.  Best dress is expected and songs will need to be memorized.  There will be a drawing for the students who met minimum practice requirements.  Recitals are a fun way to showcase what the students have learned and teach confidence and performance skills.  I will do all I can to help them prepare and ensure they have a positive experience.

Lessons

During the lessons I will cover theory, rhythm, sight-reading, composing, assigned songs, and new songs.  Actual lesson material will depend on your child's age and needs.  Parent has the option of observing the lesson.
